NASIONALXPOS.CO.ID, TANGERANG DISTRICT – In a challenging life journey, Sarah (30) struggled to get custody of her three children after experiencing alleged domestic violence (KDRT) from her husband, Muhammad Royani, a civil servant at the Office of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (DP3A). The story begins in 2012, when they married and had three young children.
Over time, their household fell apart. Sarah revealed that since 2019, she had been experiencing violence from her husband, which made her feel trapped in an increasingly difficult situation. For her safety and well-being, in 2020, Sarah decided to separate.
Feeling unclear about the future, Sarah took a bold step in 2022 by suing Royani for divorce. However, her struggle did not stop there. Sarah now faced the challenge of gaining custody of her children after the divorce.
Determined, Sarah sued for child custody at the Tigaraksa Religious District Court, accompanied by her attorneys, Zainal Abidin and Pratama Septiandi, This case attracted public attention, especially because her husband works in an institution that is supposed to protect women and children.
Sarah hopes that through this legal process, she can ensure a better future for her children, giving them the love and attention they need. In her statement, Sarah emphasized that she only wants the children to grow up in a safe and loving environment. And they deserve the best from her as a mother.
Support from the community and relevant institutions is needed to help women like Sarah fight for her rights and the rights of her children. This story is not only about an individual struggle, but also underscores the importance of awareness of domestic violence and child custody issues in Indonesia.

Zainal Abidin, as Sarah’s attorney also emphasized that he hopes that the child’s custody will be won by the mother, because it is important for the child’s growth and development to get love from the mother, Monday (3/2/2025).
In the same place, Sarah’s husband, Muhammad Royani denied the allegations. He stated that he had never prohibited Sarah from seeing their children.
“Almost every year, Sarah’s parents pick them up. Sometimes I take the children. Last December, I took the children and they stayed at her house for almost two weeks. Last January they also stayed at her house,” Royani told reporters. (Red)
