NASIONALXPOS.CO.ID, BALI – The implementation of the Bali International Film Festival (Balinale) 2024 is currently the 17th year, where the event program is packed increasingly lively accompanied by the presence of moviemakers, industry players, and creative activists with innovative work.
Among the movie screening programs at the Asian Film Festival Awards (AFAA), 6 Movies were screened in the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation. AFAA also invited industry players, moviemakers, and creators of Hong Kong cinema to attend Balinale 2024. One of the special guests was Stanley Kwan, a famous producer and director of Hong Kong cinema.
Stanley Kwan was present in his latest movie titled Fly Me to the Moon as a movie producer, with director Sasha Chuk. The specialty, Fly Me to the Moon will be the Opening Movie in a series of film screening activity programs at Balinale 2024.
“I am very proud and grateful to the crew and media and the Indonesian government for being given the opportunity to screen this movie,” said Stanley Kwan, at the press conference, Saturday (1/6/2024) at Cinepolis Renon, Denpasar.
2 other movies made by Stanley Kwan entitled Center Stage produced in 1991 and Rouge in 1988 which has been digitally restored also attended the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation at Balinale 2022.
Center Stage, starring Mandarin actress Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung Kafai and Karina Lau, tells the story of the journey of popular Chinese actress Ruan Lingyu (1910-1935) who tragically died at the age of 24. amidst the height of her popularity, Ruan Lingyu was dubbed the Greta Garbo of Chinese cinema.
There is something interesting about Stanley Kwan’s movies, both Center Stage and Rouge tell the story of women who are oppressed to become superior women. Where this message is very strong is conveyed in these 2 movies.
Meanwhile, the movie Fly Me to the Moon is similar to the two previous movies. There is a little girl named Yuen who reunites with her father in Hong Kong after years of separation. However, Yuan felt that the meeting was no longer the same as her childhood dream when she gathered with her father.
In the same place, Director of Music, Film, and Animation from The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhammad Amin Abdullah, said that Balinale has spread across several provinces in Indonesia, and Balinale has also built relationships with foreign parties.
“This is a platform where we can communicate with foreign parties because we cannot stand alone, Hong Kong who wants to come to Indonesia is already extraordinary,” he said. (Tik)
