LPK-RI Highlights Illegal Levies in Prisons and Detention Centers

NASIONALXPOS.CO.ID, TANGERANG – Prison rooms become a business arena. The Consumer Protection Institute of the Republic of Indonesia (LPK-RI) highlighted Illegal levies in Penitentiary (Lapas) and Detention Centers (Rutan).

Secretary of LPK-RI Tangerang City, Mustain Billah Marap, said that prisoners are used as cash cows and Illegal levies is a hidden business in Penitentiary and Detention Centers.

“Information on Illegal Levies in Prisons and Detention Centers it’s an open secret, it’s been a long time ago,” said Mustain via his cellular telephone, Saturday, (3/2/2024).

According to him, the overload of prisoners benefits the Penitentiary and Detention Centers, because each prisoner is quoted the room fee.

“The prison is like a boarding house or rent, nothing is free. For those who cannot afford to pay, they are called lost children who are used as cleaners,” he said.

According to him, there are allegations of deposits to the leadership, because it has never been revealed for years, the weak supervision of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, especially the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas).

“This is a bad record that has never been revealed, the government should be sensitive to this problem,” he pleaded.

Mustain admitted that the coaching program in Prisons and Detention Centers was very good and besides that prisoners were given various training.

“The guidance program in Prisons and Detention Centers is very good, they are given training and spiritual guidance,” he concluded. (red)
