NASIONALXPOS.CO.ID, TANGERANG CITY — The Tangerang Class IIA Youth Correctional Facility (Lapas) is allegedly of collecting room fees every month from prisoners. For the prison room he occupies, every month prisoners must pay IDR 150 thousand to IDR 250 thousand.
An unnamed former prisoner said that when he and other Prisoners were serving their sentences, they were required to pay for the lockers and rooms they occupied every month.
“The monthly money for the bang room is the same as the room. If in the monthly room there are IDR 200 thousand, some are IDR 250 thousand per month. If in the boarding school IDR 150 thousand per month, the same locker money is IDR 50 thousand per month,” he explained to reporters via his cellular telephone, Friday (3/1/2024).
He said, the Head of the Room (Palkam) is in charge of collecting room money from prisoners every month and depositing the money to the Tangerang Class IIA Youth Correctional Facility officers.
“It is deposited to Palkam, then Palkam will go to the stereg block or tamping block, then deposit it to the Gasling officer,” he said.
According to him, this is not an open secret and the prisoners who are still serving their sentences do not dare to protest or tell stories, because they are worried about their safety.
“From the past and until now in the prison no one dares to tell, afraid of being celled,” he concluded.
When confirmed, Head of Tangerang Class IIA Youth Correctional Facility, Wahyu Indarto denied this. Of the total 3117 Prisoners, no one was asked for room money.
“I have never quoted at all to the prisoners. I apologize, that’s not true,” he concluded. (red)
